What is a street paper?

Street papers are magazines or newspapers sold by people experiencing poverty, homelessness or other forms of marginalisation.

They give people an immediate, dignified and legitimate way to earn money while seeking to address the causes of poverty through journalism and advocacy.

As organisations, street papers are independent entities: non-profit organisations or social enterprises that reinvest their profits into services to support people in need. These services can include housing placement projects and emergency supplies of food and clothing.

Street papers are also independent media, reporting on social justice issues and providing a unique platform for alternative perspectives and unheard voices, challenging public perceptions of poverty and social injustice around the world.
